Garlic is probably one of my favorite things that I grow in my container garden. I LOVE garlic, and love all of its healthy benefits. People would be amazed at how very simple it is to grow your own garlic at home. You can even give yourself a head start and plant a sprouted garlic bulb in a container, instead of planting seeds. Sprouted garlic bulb? Yup. You know those heads of garlic that you forget about, and by the time you find them, some of the bulbs are forcing …

I’ve decided that because of the extreme heat this summer, I’m going to start an indoor container garden. I’ll grow basil, rosemary, chives, thyme, and dill. I’m also going to try to grow lavender for the first time in my life.

In South Texas, we’re lucky enough to have two growing seasons. This summer, though, the weather has been particularly brutal. I lost most of my seeds and seedlings to three days of torrential (but much-needed) rains in late May. The few plants that did survive have been struggling to stay alive. I am outside watering them four or five times a day, and they still seem to be wilting from the extreme heat. I’ve tried moving them shady areas (under large mesquite trees, and in the covered patio). There’s really …
