How to Make Planters out of PCV Pipe

I’m a big believer in using what you have, and doing things as frugally as possible. I buy flower pots at garage sales, and use dollar store dish pans to grow vegetables in. So what of course, since I always have container gardening on the brain, a little light bulb went off in my head when I saw a bunch of 10″  and 12″ PVC pipe at a garage sale recently. What are Plant Lice?
Some people call them aphids. Some people call them plant lice. Whatever you want to call them is fine, but you do NOT want them in your garden. These little buggers come in variety of colors (pink, …

Weed Control in a Container Garden

Just because I garden in containers doesn’t mean I escape the drudgery of weeds and weed control. Ergh. In some of my pots, I still get occasional weeds. I figure the seeds are carried by the wind or birds, and dropped in my pots. The great thing is, weed control is sooooo much easier in a container garden that it would be if I had a conventional in-ground garden. In my little containers, I just pinch up the little offenders and go about my day. My larger containers, however, were …
