My Summer Container Garden

20 December 2011 One Comment

In South Texas, we’re lucky enough to have two growing seasons.  This summer, though, the weather has been particularly brutal.  I lost most of my seeds and seedlings to three days of torrential (but much-needed) rains in late May.   The few plants that did survive have been struggling to stay alive.  I am outside watering them four or five times a day, and they still seem to be wilting from the extreme heat.  I’ve tried moving them shady areas (under large mesquite trees, and in the covered patio).   There’s really no escaping the heat, and I don’t know what else to do for my poor plants!

So far, the only thing that is thriving in my container garden this season is my basil and cilantro.  They’re taking off like crazy, and I’m loving it.  :)   There’s nothing like fresh herbs, straight from the container garden to the table.  Mmmm!
