How to Grow Holy Basil in a Container Garden

4 January 2012 No Comment

Holy basil is a member of the basil family. The leaves look like most other basils. The plant grows in “white” and “red” varieties, but the color name refers to the stems of the plants; the leaves are green on both varieties. The full grown height is about 18 inches tall, but the size of the container you grow them in can control how large they get.

To grow holy basil in a container, all you need is a container, potting mix, and organic fertilizer. And, of course, the requisite water and sunlight. Plant the holy basil in a container the same way you would in the ground: root ball below the surface, soil packed loosely around the roots. Water when the top inch of soil feels dry to the touch. Light needs, as I said, are full to filtered light. If you have a room that is brightly sunlight during the day, with no need for lamps or overhead lighting, you can grow your holy basil in or near a window in this room.
