Growing Juliet Tomatoes in a Container

Juliet tomatoes are considered grape tomatoes. They are smallish (sort of like cherry tomatoes), but are more oblong in shape. They look like someone used a shrink ray on a Roma tomato.
Juliet tomatoes are known to be prolific growers and fruit bearers, so I used the biggest container I could find. How to Grow Tomato Plant Upside Down

When Topsy Turvy started airing their commercials nation-wide, people went bonkers for the product.  It’s basically a fabric bag with a coiled wire support, in which gardeners are supposedly growing massive, delicious tomatoes.   If you’d like to grow tomatoes upside, down, though, I suggest you make your own upside down container instead of investing in a Topsy Turvy bag system.  (Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure the TT works wonderfully, I just prefer to do things with minimal expense. )

In South Texas, we’re lucky enough to have two growing seasons.  This summer, though, the weather has been particularly brutal.  I lost most of my seeds and seedlings to three days of torrential (but much-needed) rains in late May.   The few plants that did survive have been struggling to stay alive.  I am outside watering them four or five times a day, and they still seem to be wilting from the extreme heat.  I’ve tried moving them shady areas (under large mesquite trees, and in the covered patio).   There’s really …
