I saw an infomercial for an “indoor herb garden” kit that the merchant is promoting as an easy way to grow herbs indoors. It made me cringe! The merchant and promoters obviously  have no experience in container gardening, growing herbs, or growing herbs indoors. These guys are selling one large planter in which to grow ALL of the herb seeds they send you.

Most of the herbs that I grow, I grow in my little indoor herb garden. It’s just easier this way. During late summer, the sun destroys their tender little leaves, and the rare winter frosts kill the plants to the ground. Plus, it’s so much easier to reach over and pluck herbs from the plants sitting on the kitchen counter while I cook.

I’ve decided that because of the extreme heat this summer, I’m going to start an indoor container garden.   I’ll grow basil, rosemary, chives, thyme, and dill.  I’m also going to try to grow lavender for the first time in my life.
I have a sunny kitchen window, which should do nicely.    Unfortunately, the window looks directly into the window of my nosey neighbors’ kitchen window, so I’ll have to figure out a way for me to allow my plants to get full sunlight, while keeping our privacy.  Hm.
